How much do you tip at a small day spa?

I've read you should tip 15-20%, like in restaurants, but the gift certificate I got for Christmas doesn't include tips. If I tip 20%, that will end up being $40! That seems like an awful lot to me.

Also, I'm having several treatments. Do I tip each therapist individually? How much do you tip at a small day spa?
Restaurants are different. A waiter or waitress sometimes get paid a less than minimum wage. The law justs makes sure that what the restaurant pays and the tips they receive are greater or equal to minimum wage.

At a spa, hair salon, nail salon, massager, etc, they are usually paid for their job with hopes of more via tips.

My opinion is, if the person performed below par, no tip. On par, 5 to 10%. Above par, 15% to 20%. They're not a machine and deserve a little extra if they work a little extra to please you.

Maybe $40 is a lot but not extreme? You're getting a $200 + tax treatment as a gift. The only thing coming out of your pocket is the tip. My suggestion is to have about $40 in Ones, Fives, and Tens. If you tip each one (3 persons so far) about 5 to 10 bucks it'll only be $15 to $30 to you, but we'll really help them out.

One more thing to consider. Do you ever plan on going back? If not, then it trully want matter to much. You'll leave and they'll just be disappointed. Don't expect great service the next time you come back. Tip well, and they'll start to remember your name. How much do you tip at a small day spa?
No, you don't have to. I would say every other time, or maybe the last time, give a nice big tip. Good luck
